A cold but dry February has allowed us to have a great turnout at all our events, thank you to everyone who attended.
Frank had a Valentine’s visit to his garden by a couple of ‘yoofs’ in their hot hatch which succeeded in mounting his Suzuki Jeep. Garage, heat pump and Suzuki all suffered damage but his bikes and Spitfire escaped. The things he’ll do to get a picture in the newsletter !!

Welcome to our last newsletter of 2022, I am sure that you will agree that this last year has been great for getting out on the bikes and on only a few occasions have we got wet and, being able to ride into November without overnight frosts, has been a further blessing. One can only hope that 2023 will be equally kind and by now I hope you have received the programme of events for 2023 by e-mail.

On Sunday October 2nd we had our celebratory Roy Lambert Ride-in to the Lion at Leintwardine . The Lion Staff were efficiency personified with a large indoor table and coffee and tea on arrival and excellent bacon sandwiches. Roy’s daughter, Anne, her partner Jude and his son John and his wife all came a good long way to celebrate their father’s outstanding contribution to the Worcester Section. They seemed to enjoy their morning and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. A ride-on back to the Cob House for those who wanted further refreshment went well.
Monday 10th was our Club night at the Bell with time for everyone to have a good natter
Thursday 13th had mid-week run starting from the Cob house and heading out towards Bridgnorth and coming back to a new lunch venue at The Harbour Inn at Arley. This runs was organised by Richard Bullock and several very positive reports about the lunch stop at the Harbour Inn in Arley have been received.

On Sunday 7th Mike Davies took a group of 25 on his Hereford Revisited Run with stops at Westons cider Mill cafe in Much Marcle and a lunch stop at the Nags Head in Peterchurch.[above] Karen at the Nags Head managed to feed everyone who wanted food very generously especially as Mike had told her only 15 would be arriving!
Past Events.
On Thursday 1st September we had a breakfast meeting at the Wheelhouse Cafe Upton Marina 23 attendees who enjoyed a fine breakfast but we must remember they don’t open until 10.00am in future!
WORCESTER T.T.
On Sunday September 4th the Worcester Section organised the fourth running of their Worcester TT. This is a social run for small capacity bikes, oldies and three-wheelers. The route is our local version of the 37 mile TT course on the Isle of Man but has both Junior and Senior Courses to challenge machinery of different capacities and abilities..
Despite our advert in the VMCC journal coming out after the event we still managed 41 attendees and this year attracted a very varied and pleasing number of entries of all types. We had four pedal assisted mopeds and one belt drive from 1912, five three-wheelers and one combination and numerous other bikes of all ages and capacities.

The Leaking Well Inn provided a fine breakfast for 13 of our group on the 30th June and 8 of us rode on from there to Barton Court in Colwall for their Classic Vehicle meet held on the last Thursday of each month. The cafe provides excellent coffee.
Ten members attended the Fox and Hounds Lulsley for lunch on 3rd July and were well cared for. Club night on the 11th , a ‘Bring a Bike’ night, attracted over 40 members again this month with a vast variety of machinery. Alan’s Flying Flea refused to start at the end of the evening until we threatened it with a plug spanner at which point it roared [sic] into life.

ALLEN HOUSE MATTERS
Still no new member lists so could not welcome new members as we had in the past
PLANNING FOR 2023
RC stated that it was necessary to consider the continuation of the section in view of the ages of the current committee and run organisers. RC to ask new members to the section to see if they were willing to organise runs, it was suggested that if they were unwilling to do it on their own then they could perhaps pair up with another new member. RC also to write to certain individuals to ask if they would consider joining the committee. ACTION RC
VISITS
RC had two ideas for visits in 2023, the first was for a Scottish tour in June and also a visit to the Llangollen Motor Museum.
CLUB LIAISON
RC reported on two meetings he had recently with chairmen of local clubs who had expressed interest in joining with us for certain events. They were Christopher Parker of the Shropshire section of the VJMC and John Price of the Malvern Bike Club.

Great Spring weather has meant some most enjoyable rides the highlight being Bob Arnold’s Good Friday run with 33 riders out on the day. Pete Howell’s Spring Flatlands run had glorious weather and a super route ending in a great pub meal on the riverside at the Yew Tree Inn, 21 riders. Two well attended breakfast meetings were held and a Club Night when a most entertaining and informative talk was given by our past ‘Flying Doctor’, David Malcolmson, to a full house. We are starting our Club Nights at 7.00pm and have been for some time so, if you don’t want to miss the start of events, do check the programme. We attended the Malvern Festival of Transport and had a stand with a variety of bikes, small show but the highlight was Dave Clarke gaining Runner Up trophy for his pristine BSA [which stopped on the way home!!
Future Events.
This Sunday, 1st May, we have a Breakfast meeting from 9.30 am.at the Cob House. I have then arranged a ride-on, for those who would like attend using the Country House Run which was rained off last year save for four brave souls. The weather looks much better for Sunday. We are heading for Mellington Hall near Montgomery with a coffee stop at the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. Details and route are on our Website. The route is over good B roads but Shropshire’s road repairs are not exemplary. From mile 29, at your first signage to Ditton Priors for the next 6 miles there are sections of smooth new tarmac followed by very poor sections, take care we are in no hurry. Look out for the ‘Grand Designs’ water tower conversion as you turn left for Weston at 37 miles. The last few miles before lunch are in Powis, a newly laid road surface but not all the dressing gravel has been swept up so again take it easy. Mellington Hall is hosting a Porsche Owners’ Club Lunch so don’t get there too early or you will put the staff under undue pressure. Park at the side of the Hall near the Play area. It is 50 miles to the coffee stop and a further 20 to the lunch stop where Sunday Dinners and light bites will be available, menu to view at start so you can decide on how big a breakfast you need ! A view of Mellington Hall. This is where you park the bikes.
Monday 9th our first ‘Bring a Bike’ night at the Bell [WR2 6QG] from 7.00pm.
On Thursday 12th Bill Danks has kindly organised a ‘Bimble’ out to the Hundred House near Builth Wells [LD1 5RY] with an optional coffee stop at the Watering Hole Aymestery [HR6 9SR] and a tea Stop at Burford House [WR15 8HQ] A total route of some 116 miles. See the website for the Route but also, if you need lunch, this must be ordered from the Menu on the website before May 6th, send e-mail to bill.danks119@btinternet.com
On Sunday 15th Bob Arnold has his ‘Two Stroke Run’ but all bikes welcome. Starting from the Cob house from 9.30am and heading up towards Ludlow via Tenbury, with shorter route options for tiddlers, and returning via Bromyard to a lunch stop at The Talbot at Knightwick. They have just completed a fine Garden Room and we have one of the first bookings of this handsome addition to the pub. Roasts and Sandwiches will be available. The Talbot has made great efforts to recover not only from Covid but also last year’s severe flooding, I cannot promise that your lunch will be the cheapest but trust that you would wish to support this fine country Pub
Saturday 21st we are invited to join the North Birmingham Section on their Worcester Tour from 10.00am starting from Tony’s Diner[WV15 6QL] not Rowberry’s as in our programme.
Our final event On Thursday 26th May is a Breakfast meeting at Chadbury Farm Shop Cafe [WR11 4TD] near Evesham from 10.00am.
Is this a picture just after the Two Stroke Run has passed through or the scene in Monkwood Nature Reserve behind the Fox Inn ?
Other dates for your diary
Sunday 22nd May, Wistanstow Classic Bike Show, always a great turnout of bikes from the Borders and a good auto-jumble presence.
Saturday 2nd July Wolverley Carnival would be happy to see any of our older vehicles attend.
Sunday 24th July The Star Bike Show organised by the WAC club on Perdiswell Park [WR3 7SN].
June will be a very busy month with eight events for you to enjoy, don’t forget to send in your ‘Hereford on the Edge’ entries to Geoff McGladdery. A great day out and a challenge for your navigational skills.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
All present were happy with it. The video of the second man drop off system was well received.
SECTION SECRETARY
No applications as yet.
ALLEN HOUSE MATTERS
Details of the insurance scheme to cover run organisers were still awaited. RC had been involved in a lengthy discussion with various AH people about a ‘Join Us’ post card for prospective members and an acceptable design had been agreed last month. JP to contact AH to see when these would be delivered. ACTION JP
SECOND MAN DROP OFF SYSTEM GUIDANCE
The meeting was advised of the problems encountered by another section with this system. RC was of the opinion
that it was not reliable for groups of more than 10, 6 being the ideal number.
SOCIAL RUN GUIDELINES
All members had been happy to sign agreement to these when signing on for a run.
WEBSITE
The section website had been much improved by Graham Walsh recently but he had indicated that he no longer had time to devote to it. JW volunteered to take on the development of the website and this was accepted by the meeting. JW and LB to check with Graham to see if he is OK with this. ACTION LB/JW
FINANCE
RC reported that the account now stood at £210.06.
CHARGE FOR RUNS
JW proposed that we should introduce a small charge for those participating on runs. RC advised that he was against this, mainly because it seemed less likely that organisers could be held liable for any claims from members if there was no cost involved.
HW proposed that we should hold a raffle on the 4 open air club nights to raise funds, any prizes would have to be small enough to be carried on a bike. To be discussed at the next meeting.
MEETING VENUE
JP had raised the matter of the problem with the committee meetings having to be finished by 8.00 pm because of the Morris Men in the next room. The only alternative at the Talbot was a room which was used by the air rifle club from 9.00 pm onwards. There being little interest for discussion the meetings remain at the Talbot.
EMAIL LISTS
JP raised the matter of the 3 versions of the section email list held by JP, LB and RC. It was resolved that RC and LB would send JP their versions and he would compare them. ACTION JP/RC/LB
